Dr P Psychiatry Ltd is available to provide expert Independent Medical Examiner services to the insurance industry.
Following training in AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (6th Edition), Dr Pretorius has gained valuable experience in providing psychiatric IME assessments and reports relating to income protection claims based on mental illness. In addition to UK training in General Adult Psychiatry, Dr Pretorius is trained and experienced in Liaison Psychiatry, Psychotherapies, Cognitive / Dementia assessments, and Adult ADHD. This broad training allows for expert assessment of all relevant aspects of each patient’s situation and offering formulations as well as potential future interventions taking all of the above into account.
Reports will include:
Summary of all GP, Psychiatry, and Insurance documents provided prior to assessment.
Structured and comprehensive initial psychiatric assessment history.
Systematic assessment of all mental disorders against ICD-10 diagnostic criteria and codes as well as the course of such mental disorders over time.
Rating of the severity of each mental disorder.
Systematic assessment of impairment in relevant areas of life.
Rating of the severity of impairment with approved rating instruments and based on the AMA Guides to provide total impairment ratings.
Comment on whether maximum medical improvement has been achieved.
Recommendations for further psychiatric & psychological treatments to improve residual symptoms of mental disorder.
Conclusion regarding the permanence of impairment and the likelihood of returning to work, either in the same position, a different position with the same employer, or a different position with another employer.
Practical considerations:
All assessments will be online to facilitate ease of access from the comfort of each patient’s home.
With several years of experience working online Dr Pretorius uses multiple video conferencing platforms and will support patients in making this work.
Assessment and a full report can be provided within 14 days of the IME service being requested, depending on patient availability.
The typical time demand for providing IME assessment and reporting is 3.5 hours.
