Adult ADHD Assessments

Dr P Psychiatry Limited provides private assessments and treatment of common mental disorders in adults. In addition to a friendly, warm and relaxed atmosphere during assessment, the process will be systematic and thorough, considering specific ICD 10 diagnostic criteria as well as rating the severity of mental disorders.

As a General Adult Psychiatrist with several years Adult ADHD experience, Dr Werner Pretorius has expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Adult ADHD.

Diagnosis of ADHD requires completion of pre-assessment forms:

• Self-Report form describing examples of different symptoms.

• Informant Report form describing examples of different symptoms in adulthood.

• Informant-Report form describing examples of different symptoms in childhood, before age 12.

• Functional Impairment Rating Scale.

• Physical Health Questionnaire.

• Blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height form

Dr Pretorius is highly trained and experienced in psychopharmacology as well as a variety of evidence-based psychotherapies, hence can appropriately recommend therapies and coaching.

The face-to-face online assessment will comprise:

• Comprehensive, structured initial psychiatric history.

• Structured Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults (DIVA 5.0).

• Mental State Examination.

• Formulation and consideration of other neurodevelopmental, mental health, and physical health problems contributing to difficulties.

• Treatment planning, including consideration of risk factors for treatment.

Practical considerations:

• All assessments will be online to facilitate ease of access from the comfort of each patient’s home.

• With several years of experience working online Dr Pretorius uses multiple video conferencing platforms and will support patients in making this work.

• Assessment and a full report can be provided within 14 days of the appointment being requested, depending on patient availability.

• This assessment can provide an expert opinion regarding current mental health but cannot negate or overrule previous psychiatric diagnoses or opinions unless all previous records are available.

• The typical time demand for providing Adult ADHD assessment and report is 2 hours (excluding additional time of 1hour / 100 pages of additional records).
